Officers with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office launched “Operation Spring Sweep 2019” on April 8. By the end of the day, they’d arrested 15 suspects that were wanted on drug charges in the area.

A spokesperson with the sheriff’s office notes that they had originally set out to locate 38 suspects when their operation got underway that Monday morning. They only were able to track down the 15 that they arrested though.

The suspects that they ultimately arrested were some of their most wanted fugitives. They have been responsible for selling and distributing highly addictive drugs such as hydrocodone, heroin and methamphetamine through Statesville and the rest of Iredell County. The sheriff’s office spokesperson notes that this latest drug bust marks one of the largest that this part of North Carolina has ever seen.

A representative with the sheriff’s office notes that many of the suspects that were apprehended during the operation sold the narcotics and prescription drugs to undercover officers at different points in time. They acknowledged that tips from community members led them to identify a large number of suspects that were targeted as part of this operation.

The spokesperson acknowledged that this operation focused on dealers of these drugs because they can have a devasting impact on those who use them. They also note individuals’ use of them adversely impacts the community at large.

One thing that you should know prosecutors is that they fight aggressively to convict a defendant charged with a drug crime. They work particularly hard to take those accused of selling large amounts of some of the most dangerous and addictive drugs off Statesville’s streets. This is why you should consult with a dedicated criminal defense attorney who will fight for your freedom if you’re charged with such a crime.
